@tmcw I think @djangoproject does a good job of balancing point 1 (docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.8/). They remove docs for old versions after a reasonable amount of time (although I have been bitten by this in the past), but they warn you when you’re looking at docs for an unsupported version.
