    @dan_abramov It could be worse… when the pledge was first created in the late 1800s you were supposed to salute the flag with a gesture eerily similar to the Nazi salute.

      @dan_abramov On the other hand the original text of the pledge is a little less nationalistic and religious (it doesn’t specifically mention America or God) and it’s actually kinda poetic — 2 pairs of lines of 9 syllables and 8 syllables: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance?wprov=sfti1
