Double-tap gestures are almost always a terrible idea. They introduce artificial delays for little benefit. Sometimes there’s a way to start an action with a single tap then smoothly switch when a double tap is detected. If you can’t do that then don’t use a double-tap.

Examples (iOS): tapping links in iMessages, Safari (until recently), tapping photos to hide the bars in Photos and Messenger, clicking the Side Button (if you have an accessibility shortcut or double-click for Wallet enabled). Once you see, you can’t unsee.
